"So, you've noticed the lights in the sky, too?" the well-dressed young man asked.

The child simply smiled and nodded. "They're pretty!"

The man groaned in consternation. They were positively beautiful, each radiating a soft blue halo of light, much larger and brighter than any star. The quiet night sky was crowded with their wavering, drifting luminescence.

The child began sobbing uncontrollably. "I'm scared," he muttered. He turned on his heel and ran into the deserted night.

The man walked on. His friends claimed an alien invasion. He merely enjoyed being able to walk home without passing through darkness.

A Word

99 Words is a pet project I started in 2011 when at college. The idea was that I didn't have time for writing, but still had passing fancies, visions, plot ideas, and the like. Instead of tossing them to the wayside, I came up with a plan to turn those notes into little chunkules of text, each 99 words long. This is section is still updated.
